Literature Text

In forest deep where no bird sings
we watch him yawn, great barren tree.
A hole marks where his heart should be--
reminder of lost pretty things.
In morning breeze, his branches swing
a tired, broken eulogy
of all he'll never do or see
trapped in this endless dawning spring.
We, keepers here, keep change at bay
for change is enemy to day.
In forest deep where no man walks
we listen to his branches talk--
now and again, we hear him say
"I wish, I wish, this pain away."

This is a Sardine!  NO, not the fish!  :shakefish:

The Sardine or Sonondilla was created by “The Dread Poet Roberts”.  It features 14-lines of tetrameter (preferably iambic) with the following rhyme schemes:  abbacddceeffee or abbaabbaccddcc

I went with the second rhyme scheme, obvs.

ALSO, this poem is inspired by

I sometimes consider what goes on so deep in a forest than humans rarely (if ever) happen upon a particular spot. But then, if I could be there to see it, my presence would alter the rhythm of that place.

Each tree that lives long in its rooted spot, must surely communicate with fellow trees, somehow. They live out their lives knowing nothing of humankind - which of course is not always kind where trees are involved. The pains of age must take their toll, and only the forest will ever truly know.
