Holiday Card Project 2012

It's back!  With the goal of bringing a little cheer to patients in the hospital during the holiday season, the deviantART Holiday Card Project connects deviants from around the world and applies their tremendous artistic abilities in designing and creating uplifting holiday cards. In past years, the Project has received more than 5,000 cards sent in by more than 1,000 deviants from 50 different countries/political regions. Cards were then divvied up and distributed in-person by deviantART members to local Los Angeles, CA hospitals, with additional cards given to various hospitals in the U.S. and abroad for hospital staff members to hand out

to be remembered

must I be thunder? I do not wish to shake the world until she falls blind in awe, I do not wish to imprint myself onto a shaking earth. I do not wish to break a silence and live a strong breath- I wish to be a part of the silence. I wish to be a curved tree in a sweet and long summer, where the wind tumbles through me clumsy and I blossom delicate flowers for lovers and loners to admire. I am not much, I am not much in the eyes of a shaken earth- but I am not nothing either. I am the relaxed shadow for a curious wanderer, he will remember the silence I have given him. I am not eternal but for now, I am. (and I am in comfort.)

Fall of Man

I remember thinking: if this were a story, it would be alright.  Even tragedies have meaning when someone else holds the pen.  But this is not a story.  Unless it is. There was me cradling you in the wreckage of a building; and in the distance, the sounds of running and screaming and alarms of ambulances, everyone calling for help, and there, another building collapsing. A snowflake fell on your forehead and for a moment it seemed more important than the blood, more important than bombs falling from the sky, the war that had begun.  Blocks away perhaps a television was somehow still on, perhaps it screamed propaganda.  All I knew was you

For weeks he's been looking forward to you coming to see how he leaves his inferior classmates in the dust.” “Sweetie, I'm an evil genius, it's who I am! I can't just turn it off!” “Of course I understand that, but we're your family. We just want to spend time with you. When is the last time we had a romantic nigh

Slanted Static (Collaboration)

Slanted Static January 2018 I am poetry penned and gutted-- a half-slant half-cocked barrel, a bullet nosediving (shot shy in the spotlight) but awaiting the free verse of time. I am poetry carved from your soul-- a blunt sword swallowed by verse, an arrow through an apple (a shot in the dark) grabbed and broken by tradition. I am poetry stricken with silence-- I'll tell you a story if you're willing to listen of the blisters on my heart, of the shadows in the dark, of the spaces all my darts go to find motion... but you have to be ready to take the fall and trust the shattering. I am poetry bogged down with bruises-- tearing pieces from

Poetry Discussion 2: Kyoka Concepts

In my previous journal, I gave a general overview of the Japanese poetic style known as Kyoka. I discussed a few concepts of kyoka and briefly examined its importance in studying traditional tanka. In this journal, I will elaborate on kyoka’s relationship to classical tanka. While modern tanka incorporates a wide range of subject matter, it is important to understand when this transition occurred. Just as haiku underwent several reformations during Japan’s Edo period, tanka shifted from an emphasis on aristocratic subjects to a more inclusive style incorporating the perspective of the working class. Previously forbidden to

science in common core

a risen ocean—warm ice carries a massive summer, a coarse, wave-worn season. rivers increase or narrow. corrosive rain across enormous zones— asia or wisconsin, mexico or missouri: various areas in succession, even on roman ruins or vesuvius. we are worms in a new mesozoic as a scoriaceous sun oozes across some sierra. we can see more. we can see now, our universe. we can see reason, an answer in our veins. an answer in some room in america— a curious minor, six or seven, now insecure as new axis sea ice or revenue sources— a minor score: an iron crown worn as a cone even as a man.

starlight and harmonies

I got lost in the wavering harmonies, spirited into the underworld by a goddess whose song entangled me, showed me true starlight, almost all was well in the world. He knew nothing of my world, of the song that had entangled me, He could not recognize a harmony, denounced the underworld and any goddess. Blind to the starlight. She was beyond the starlight. Her title maker of the world, spirit incarnate, crowned underworld goddess, leading the lost with her wavering harmonies, singing a song that entangled me. She sang for the boy to entangle him for me. He fought the wavering harmonies, until she showed him true starlight, gave him a new
