If you have a deviant you'd like to see included, please send betwixtthepages a note with the subject "Call to Conversation"--make sure to include the deviant's name as well as a reason you think they'd make a good interview subject! Also, feel free to send along a question or two you'd like to have answered by them!

This week's feature is AsterGirl!

Aster is relatively new to the dA Lit Community, but is already making waves with her emotional and haunting poetry.  If you haven't checked out her gallery yet, head over there and do so now--I can assure you, you won't regret it! Her pieces will make you reconsider the world...and fall in love with her writing style.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and how you came up with your username?
My name is Priscilla, but I prefer it if you call me Aster. I am a teenage poet residing in Los Angeles. Though most people find it hard to believe, I am 14 (going to turn 15 on July 28th). I sometimes feel that I think more than an average 14-year-old though I consider that a good thing. I write for many reasons, but listing them all here would only take up too much space (maybe I'll write about it later myself).

My username comes from the show Young Justice. In the show, Robin, Batman's sidekick, dissects & reconstructs words. One word he deconstructs is 'disaster'. Disaster means that everything is going wrong. He says that the suffix dis- means not therefore 'aster' must mean everything is going right. I used this word to create an ironic username because at the time nothing in my life was going right.

2. You write a lot of short poems--is there a reason for the brevity?

3. If you could choose the background music for your poetry, what type of song would you pick (i.e. country, classical, rock) and why?
Considering most of my poetry is rather emotional, I suppose that these artists would make great background music: The Arctic Monkeys, Imagine Dragons, Lana Del Rey, The Neighborhood, Florence and the Machine, & The Fray.

4. In the future, you meet a new life form.  Tell us about this new creature?
I call it a Leodronidon. It has the body of a cat with the tail of a monkey, the legs of a kangaroo, & opposable thumbs. They're rather shy, nervous creatures. They love to drink tea & eat banana muffins, & if you ask nice enough, they'll make you a cup as well. I've named mine Jupiter. We have long conversations about society & poetry.

5. How do you feel about the dA literature community?  What do you like most? Least?
I love the DA Literature community. They are very welcoming regardless of my age.

I think that the things I love most about it are: 1. People can enjoy & connect to my work & 2. I have the power to make someone feel good about themselves & their work without leaving my bed :giggle:

The thing that I like least about it is that there are some people who's work is spectacular, but they just don't get enough recognition.

6. Are there any deviants you are intimidated by or are scared to talk to? Care to tell us who and why?
I'm kind of hesitant to talk to most people on DeviantArt for a reason I can't quite put my finger on; however, some who particularly intimidate me are: oaklungs, DearPoetry, saltwaterlungs, & Aerode. Please don't take it the wrong way :thanks: .It's because they are super amazing at what they do.

7. How about deviants you look up to or admire?
Oh I could go on forever & ever about deviants I admire, but here are some of my absolute favorite:
DearPoetry, saltwaterlungs, oaklungs, Aerode, SilverInkblot, UntamedUnwanted, betwixtthepages, littleblueraccoon, counting-vertebrae, nosedivve, SpiralingSpontaneity, and so many more. I'm sorry I can't name you all.

8. Pick three of your least favorite words. What are they? If they each had a distinct flavor, texture, and smell, what would they be?
My first word is whore. I hate when this word is used. It would have the putrid smell of rotting milk and feel like an overused notebook. It would taste bitter and coppery if you rolled it around in your mouth.

My second word is nigger. It pains me to even type it out. It would smell like sweat and tears and taste like dirt and cotton combined like some trail mix. It would feel like old leather.

My third word is normal. I think it would look like a scrumptious cupcake on the outside, but in actuality be really bland and tasteless on the inside.

9. If you could live inside a book for ONE WEEK, what book would you choose? Who would you hang out with? What would you do?
This question is incredibly hard. I am stuck between two books/worlds.

The first is The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. I would have friendly chats with the mystifying Tsukiko, play hide & seek with Poppet and Widget (though they definitely have a huge advantage), question Alexander and Prospero the Enchanter, & simply admire the circus's general splendor.

The second is the Harry Potter series, by J.K. Rowling. I would wreak havoc with the mischievous ginger twins and seek out adventure with the famous trio of Gryiffindor. Oh, what fun it would be!

10. Find your favorite book and give us a small quote.  What does this book--and/or this quote--mean to you?
"Most of us can't rush around, talking to everyone, know all the cities of the world, we haven't time, money or that many friends. The things you're looking for, Montag, are in the world, but the only way the average chap will ever see ninety-nine per cent of them is in a book. Don't ask for guarantees. And don't look to be saved in any one thing, person, machine, or library. Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were headed for shore."
-Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury

Though we don't all have the time to experience all the things the world offers us, we can almost feel an exact replica of it in books. However, it also says to not expect it to save you; you must try to save yourself. This book is an amazingly accurate prediction of our current society. I highly recommend it.

Thank you, AsterGirl, for taking the time to talk with us today! I hope it was as much fun for you as it was for me!
